Maternity and Pregnancy Photography by White Ribbon Studios

The Anticipation of New Life

Your pregnancy is a special time in your life. It is the promise of new hope, new dreams, and new life. It is a time of anticipation like none other.

Fine art maternity and newborn photography can capture this moment and preserve the beauty of its memory. It would be an honor for me to photograph this time in your life. We look forward to the chance to meet with you and discuss portrait options with you. We can take the photographs in the comfort of your home, or in a location of your choosing. Our studio lighting, backdrops, and all professional photographic gear are portable and can be set up on location. During the photo session, We take many photographs in a variety of poses and lighting conditions, giving you many options.

The photo session can be kept private and confidential.

Call 703-930-8500 or send an email today to schedule your maternity photography appointment.

Artistic and Creative Options for Your Maternity Photography

Here are a few things to consider when planning your maternity photo session:

  • Will you be the only subject in the photograph, or do you want the father and/or other children in the some of the photos as well?
  • Do you have a specific look in mind that you want to achieve? If so, we can create that look. Explain your ideas to us and show us pictures, if available. We'll also exercise our own creativity to design other looks that we think would produce nice artistic effects.
  • How do you plan to showcase the photographs? Will you display them on the wall? If so, how much space on the wall should the photos take up? (Large walls need larger works of art to look aesthetically proportional.) Will you want a fine art flush-mounted album with all of the best photos arranged in a custom one-of-a-kind design? (This is a popular and very appropriate option for maternity photographs.) See the "showcasing" section below for more ideas.
  • How much of yourself would you like to show? Most maternity photography shows at least the belly exposed, but we want you to be completely comfortable during the photo session, so the decision of how much to expose is completely up to you. These sessions are private (though of course you are welcome to have friends and family present), and we never show the photographs to anyone else without your permission.

Showcasing Your Maternity Photographs

How would you like to showcase the photographs? Is there a location on one of the walls in the master bedroom that you have in mind? Have you considered canvas or fine art papers? Do you want a photo album in which to display many different images from the photo session? Do you want to send copies of the photos to friends or family members? Think about these questions as you read through some of the options.

Size:

These high resolution photographs look best when viewed large, and can be enlarged considerably (up to about 4 or 5 feet!) while still retaining their vibrance and sharpness. Popular sizes include 16x20 and 20x24. This is usually the range of size that I recommend for the intended wall display location in average sized homes, townhomes, and condos. Larger homes with more wall space to fill often benefit from sizes even larger, to ensure that the image does not look too small in the context of the room.

Printing Surface:

  • Fine art canvas. This fine art treatment of your photographs gives them a classic look that echoes the work of the masters of portrait painting.
  • Fine art papers. Your photographs can be printed on many different kinds of fine art papers, including cotton, rag paper, or cold press papers. Prints on these papers have a unique and classy look.
  • Custom-designed leather-bound photo albums. These albums are an excellent way to showcase a series of photos, giving you ownership of more of the photos from the session than you might otherwise be inclined to buy individually. Each album is a one-of-a-kind creation of the highest quality.
  • Photographic prints. Traditional photographic prints on the archival photographic papers.

Mounting:

  • Matt, glass and frame. This is a time-honored way of displaying photographs. The highest quality "museum quality" glass has a UV coating to protect the print from fading, and almost has almost zero glare from any angle. And of course there are countless options for frame style.
  • Box mount. There is no frame or glass with this method. The photos are mounted directly on a shallow "box," giving the photo a clean and modern look that stands out slightly from the wall surface.
  • Floating box mount. This mounting method places a smaller "box" behind the photo, with the edges of the photo extending beyond the box. When mounted on the wall, the photos have an appearance of floating an inch or two from the surface of the wall.
  • And more. We can discuss the possibilities.
